Awaken Passion & Purpose : Discipleship Training School

“Everyone is alive, but not everyone lives.”

The focus of the Awaken:Passion & Purpose DTS is to develop a passion for God and an understanding of and empowering for the purpose for which we were made. It is the greatest commandment unto the great commission.
Jesus said the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” And that the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” His final charge to the disciples was “go and make disciples of all nations.” This is our focus, this is our call: to be radically loved and to wholeheartedly love our Father, resulting in a lifestyle of obedience to Jesus’ call to love one another and to love the lost.
The Awaken:Passion & Purpose DTS consists of a 12 week training phase and a 10-12 week outreach phase.

This video is about What DTS is.

Training Phase

The training phase of the school is focused on knowing God, through his Word, his presence, worship, intercession and through serving in the community and evangelism. It is in this phase that we want to come to know that God loves us in such a way that it empowers us to love all those we come across as he does. We want to cultivate the lifestyle of Jesus in our own lives through prioritising his presence and allowing that to shape our relationships with others.
Each week of the lecture phase covers a different topic, taught by a different teacher. Our speakers come from different nations and backgrounds in order to give a breadth and depth to the school, to ensure we are well balanced in our understanding of who God is. During the training phase we will cover topics such as:

  • How to hear the voice of God
  • Understanding and knowing God’s nature and character
  • An overview of the story and truth of the Bible
  • An introduction to the concepts and practice of evangelism
  • An introduction to the concepts and practice of spiritual warfare
  • Intimacy with God
  • Our identities in Jesus

The Outreach Phase

The outreach phase then focuses on living and sharing all that God has taught us in the training phase, in all nations, to all generations. It is here that we want to be the fragrance of Jesus to a world in need. The book of Romans tells us, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” It then poses these questions, ” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they
have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” This is the reason we go on outreach, to tell people that the God of the Bible is the God of today and to give all people a chance to call upon Jesus’ name and be saved. We hunger for the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the lame to walk, the captive to be set free, the sick to be healed and the spiritually dead to be raised to new life with Jesus.
